Walking the Cambrian Way

Cambrian Way

As part of his attempt at walking the Cambrian Way, Richard Thomas (far left on picture) stopped off here at Byrdir. He managed to tackle the Cader Idris section and the Rhinog Mountains whilst staying with us. We were also happy to play host to his friends and wife who came to support him during what I think must be one of the more challenging sections of the walk.

The Cambrian Way is a fantastic concept. Starting from Cardiff, our capital city in the south then following a natural line of mountains that form a spine up the centre of Wales. The route has a fitting end, finishing in the majestic Conwy Castle in the north. I don’t think the walk is an official trail but is all the better for that perhaps. The walk remains under the radar to all but the most enthusiastic walker. The remoteness and quiet solitude is one of the walks greatest assets. ‘The mountain connoisseurs’ walk’

If you’re thinking of having a go yourself the CambrianWay.org.uk website is a good starting point.

Lucy Feeding the Pigs

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

We just wanted to thank you for such a lovely time with you last week.
It was our 4th time in the same “cow shed”, although we had not been for a couple of years. It made us wonder why we had left it so long.
You both made us feel so welcome on your farm, we totally relaxed.
I’ve attached a picture of Lucy doing her favourite thing!
Hopefully it won’t be as long before we see you again.

Best wishes,
Sarah, Russell and Lucy Terry.

Dell, by James Nash

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Dell by James NashDell, our border collie continues to be a favorite of many of our guests. If I’m digging in the garden however, she has a slightly annoying habit of carefully placing a stick exactly at the the point where I’m about to sink my spade. I usually throw it to one side slightly annoyed. But this is exactly what she wants naturally. She tears off to fetch it before carefully placing it at the nose of my spade once again.

This great sketch was drawn by James Nash, one of our guests over the Easter holidays.

Off to our local resevoir, Bewl Water, next week as kids hooked on windsurfing now - doing week course as a follow up to their time in Wales.
Hope all well with you, Louise and girls.

Afon Artro by David Brown

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Some great pictures taken by David Brown. David and his wife Brenda are regular and much liked guests here at Byrdir. Afon (river) Nantcol winding it’s way down from the Rhinog Mountains merges with Afon Artro on its journey from Cwm Bychan. The river flowes throught the pretty village of Llanbedr before flowing out to sea at Shell Island.

Moody Skies 1 of 2 Moody skies 2 of 2

Hi Louise & Gwion
Just wanted to say thanks for looking after us last week at Byrdir.
We had a great time and are already missing your fabulous breakfasts and wondering when we can arrange a return to your lovely part of the world.
Anyway, despite that fact that they’re pretty useless from a marketing point of view, we thought you might appreciate these shots of some moody skies taken last week.
